Synopsis 故事大綱
The story happens in an alien landscape. Beau escapes from an asylum on the eve of his ex-lover, Howl’s, birthday, hoping to win her back. His actions only push her further away. After Beau’s father denounces him in front of some co-workers, he embarks on a path of self sabotage. Meanwhile, Howl struggles to stay afloat as a petty thief, while she provides for her son, whom Beau doesn’t know…
故事發生在一個怪異的地域上，Beau為了重新贏回舊愛，在前女友Howl生日的前夕逃離了收容所。可惜他的行徑只是把她推得更遠。加上被父親在工友面前公開譴責，Beau漸漸走上自我毀滅的道路。而與此同時他不是知道的是，Howl 為了兒子，在作為小偷的生活中掙扎浮沉⋯⋯
Director’s Statement 導演闡述
This world is gonna break your heart. Everything you love will probably be lost. But in the end, love will return in another way.
The film plots are based on my personal childhood and adolescence, and is an exploration of the existence of two characters. Beau, a young man, 21 years old, in search of love, money, a place, an existence, and recognition. The boy, 9 years old, the mirror image of Beau, on the brink of the brutal end of his childhood.
They will not arrive at the end unscathed, but there is still hope, if not for Beau, then for our children.
I attempt to use this film as a theurgy (divine intervention) which revives the power of the myth and leads to a catharsis for the human soul. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.
世界總會令你心碎。你所愛的一切很可能都會消失殆盡。但最終，愛又會以另一種形式重現。
本片的情節源於我的個人童年及青少年經歷，同時亦是對於兩個人物存在的探索。Beau是一個正在尋找愛、金錢、地方、存在價值和認可的 21 歲年輕人。至於那個 9 歲的男孩，是Beau的鏡像存在，且正處於迎接童年殘酷結局的邊緣。
即使他們最後都無法全身而退，不過希望仍然存在。如果這個希望不是給Beau的，那就是給予我們後代的孩子們的。
我期許這部電影能夠作為喚醒神話力量的法術，引往人類靈魂的宣洩。不論黑暗有多深沉，都必須成為自己的燈。

His graduate thesis film A Young Tough was awarded Best Cinematography at the Michael Chapman Student Heritage Award 2020 by The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) and was selected into Young Director Award, Interfilm International Short Film Festival Berlin and CINEQUEST Film Festival etc. He was a member of the Youth Jury Panel at the 4th Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival.
畢業作品《然》獲美國電影攝影協會傳承獎最佳攝影（2020），入選巴黎Young Director Award、柏林Interfilm國際短片電影節、加州CINEQUEST電影節等。他是第四屆平遙國際電影展青年評審。

Mu Chen 穆辰
Independent producer, graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York with a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy. Works included Hidden Man (2018) and Found (2021), his latest work is currently in post-production.
