Pitching Workshop – Pitching Techniques for International and Local Financing Platform and Case Studies

Date: 4th December, 2021

Advisor: Catherine CHAN (Independent Producer, Audience Designer)

During the 3-hour workshop hosted by independent documentary film producer and audience designer, Catherine CHAN, she shared an overview of audience design, budgeting and financing strategies, and pitching techniques. It outlined the entire planning process of the “birth of a film” from scratch, and how to work with directors to be the best “performance” partner. The workshop featured practical case studies and introductions to industry resources.

‘Filming a new movie is similar to establishing a start-up.’ Therefore, it came to the concept of audience design. Before pitching, we need to think about a few questions. Who is the audience of my movie? How to attract people from different fields to engage in your project? Budgeting not only reflects your expected audience design, it also reflects your financing strategies and your distribution plan. Financing strategies would be fundamental when facing varied film festivals and fundings. Your content decides your strategies, introducing your motive and your story would be the most important thing.
